A Small Moment from my Last Day of Student Teaching

Standard

During last block of my last day, my most troublesome student asks me, “Do you watch Dexter?”

I tell him, “Yes, I do, but I hope you do not; it is too adult for you.”

“Yeah, well I am in the middle of season one,” he tells me.

“Okay,” I said and shrugged my shoulders.

“You remind me of La Guerta.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because you like control too much,” he stated.

  1. oh goodness! not sure how old the kids you were teaching are, but I watched seasons 1-3 on DVD thankfully!! There is no way I could have watched without the ability to FAST FORWARD through the violent and bloody scenes. (guess it was silly for me to even try and watch it…)
I liked La Guerta! Deb and Rita drove me crazy! and you couldn’t help but to like Dexter!!!

    • My students were 7th graders, between 12 and 14 years of age depending on where their birthday fell and if they ever had to repeat a grade. This particular student was 13. I think this was his way of skirting around telling me that I am, well, a not so nice word.
